[CamRI] Wiki - A History of Providence

Yes indeed we need to revamp /cough these histories. When the old forums
were hacked a couple of years ago we lost well everything.
Here are some dates I can think of:

1636 - A group of Carthians (Settlers) come to RI - Prior to this the
proto-covenants existed here. Unlike the proposed excel sheet there were
other covenants here though the affiliations were loose at best. Kindred
that were here before this were mostly if not completely native American.

~1680 - A group of kindred in Newport set up a new domain under the
"Goddess" Artemis. They are all crones and believed to be all native
American. It's important to note Artemis the vampire does not arrive until
1959.

The mortal populace would come to mirror the kindred government with two
Governors elected (Providence and Newport) vying for the name capital.
Newport might have been crushed publically a long time ago if there wasn't
political friction in Providence.

~1740 - John Harwick is embraced, it's a scandal as no sire his mentioned.
He eventually takes refuge in the newly emerging covenant the Ordo Dracul.
Artemis intervenes and requests Hugh Walker and Tschitquihilleu Elauwit to
protect him.

John Harwick would later become Harpy under Prince Overstreet a year later.

1772 - Elauwit leads a small contingent of kindred to prevent an all out war
with the British. Success is questioned as while the Gaspee was still burned
it was run aground first and all the mortals were allowed to abandon the
ship.

1773 - The giant Gerhardt Schneider arrives and openly proselytizes the LS.
Later Bishop Assante is brought forward into the light as well. Needless to
say friction with kindred of Newport begins in earnest.

1780 - Alexander Overstreet makes his first bid for power; challenging and
defeating the Carthian Myrmidon. His name was struck from all records per
declaration of Overstreet's Praxis. There would be near 40 year war between
the Invictus and the Carthians.

1818 - The Pact of Praxis is concluded. Alexander Overstreet in a strange
turn of fate he agrees to it. For 187 years the Invictus shall rule
unmolested by the other covenants. The Carthians would take over over for
374 years before there would be further negotiation. It is known that there
was pressure from the Three, Assante, Elauwit as covenant representatives to
stop the blood shed.

1842 - Overstreet blames the Carthians of Masquerade breeches during the
Dorr revolt.  With the support of his covenant (Invictus) and the second
estate the Carthian's council is disbanded.

It's rumored that a signing of the Pact of Aegis was renewed here. This Pact
though never spoken of is said to keep kindred and other supernaturals from
going to war. The werewolves would hold Arcadia and points south.

1878 - A kindred-backed mortal company invents the first sprinkler system.
Yes, Providence keeps kindred from burning in fires.

1959 - An Ordo Dracul Gangrel named Artemis arrived in Newport with several
Circle of the Crone followers. Their stated goal in Newport was to discover
what happened to the previous Circle of the Crone inhabitants. Niswi Amik
tried to force her out but was out-manuevered and quickly found her city
taken over by the newcomers. Artemis claimed praxis in Newport and uses the
title Goddess (instead of prince). Niswi Amik and her native american
"followers" continue to reside in Newport.

2005 - Alexander Overstreet steps down to torpor and promotes William
Tafferty as the new Chairmen (prince). It is learned that William Tafferty
was not a kindred at all. Tschitquihilleu Elauwit assisted by Bishop Assante
and Council Member Mr. Shaz walks out with his heart in hand claiming
Praxis.

During the summer conclaive (NERE 2005), Chief Elauwit stands with Prince
Cynric St. George in support of the Pact of Sovereigns.

Elauwit shortly cedes Praxis to Assant his then Herald to return to his
studies. Interferance from Cardinal Dirae forced him office. The Don
Sabatino Buonanno and the Giamasi Family walkin at about this time and fill
the power vacuum.

2006 - The War with Newport - a bloody conflict with Nimswi Amik and her
follows results in near open war between the two cities. Artemis disappears
and is later kidnapped by the savage. The Don is delayed in assault by Chloe
Kishenbaum and loses some face in his Praxis. Nimswi Amik is defeated but
escapes.

Francesca "Bella" Buonanno is believed to have diabolorized George Hapsburg
during the invasion of the Children of the Treasure.

Mr. Shaz open the Tower Beyond.

The Morbis are driven from the city but not without first wounding Kaoniki.

2007 - Prince Kirschenbaum ascends the throne and pledges loyalty the Empire
under Emperor Medici and continued under the Emperor Tellez.

When the Pact of Praxis is bought forward by the Carthian Boden (spelling
needed) Chloe cedes Praxis back to Chief Elauwit.

Elauwit holds a mock election between himself and the Don to end the
rivalry.

2008 - Chief Elauwit adopts a meritocricy but finds the kindred of
providence lacking upon the death of his eldest son Mohowowoag, Prince Akwek
of Albany. He shatters the stone laws and severs ties from the Empire.

Kaoniki is elected the Harpy unamously by citizens of Providence. She had
already served the prior princes in the role would later be elected
successor to Chief Elauwit when he went to sleep.

2009 - In Foxwoods, Kaoniki is anointed arch-bishop of Providence and Praxis
holder. Chief Elauwit is present and does not protest. The Chief has
disappeared since and this is the second major intervention on the Praxis of
Providence by the Cardinal of the Northeastern States.
