From beckett151 at gmail.com Mon Feb 2 21:38:36 2009 From: beckett151 at gmail.com (Phil Armstrong) Date: Tue, 3 Feb 2009 00:38:36 -0500 Subject: [CamRI] DST Question and Answer and Voting Phase Message-ID: <11e748a40902022138l3a76e3a8o2f4e5e82d600884c@mail.gmail.com> Afternoon everyone, I am pleased to announce that we two candidate for VST. It is James A Ruggiero and Herbert Hicks. I would now like to move onto phase two, which is the Q&A as well as Voting Phase. Members of the Domain are invited to ask questions of their candidates, and may do so on this forum. The Q&A phase will end on February 12, Noon, EST. Votes should be sent to myself (Beckett151 @ Gmail.com) and to the RST Matt Pester ( northeastrst at gmail.com) Please Label your votes as election Vision statement: Well true believers, we are once again at that pivotal point of the DST elections and I find myself compelled to run for the position. Structurally not much has changed and ironically my first Mage VST Seth has returned to the reigns and I remember a very positive working relationship. I've looked back on the evolution of our domain. The influx and exodus of members, the plots that have succeeded and those that have failed. What I have noticed most is Providence likes dark, likes strange, and likes it BIG. Because of this I will be taking story arcs away from inner politics that should be driven by PCs. Instead I will be focusing on clear and present danger. There will still be hard decisions to make but one of the chief complaints I have heard and expressed is it seems so hard to see what's going on. Don't get me wrong, there will still be machinations, sub plotting, and backstabbing but the plot bus is going to have its high beams on because its sure just got dark. These "plots" will never come uninvited and will always defer to what the VST might have in mind but they will make a clear connection that we play in a *world* of darkness. The world of darkness is suppose to be more corrupt and gritty than the real world and in Providence that's a tall order to ramp up. To accomplish this I will be giving the city a decaying heart... much like its political structure. I will be taking inspiration from Stephen King, Batman Dark Knight, and filter it with a little Lovecraft. A theme in many myths is the delving too deeply brings consequences. I will be supply temptation and consequence. Some good; some bad; and some down right creepy. Resume the short form: I could give you this monstrously complicated business like resume that you will gloss over; instead here's the basics. I have been ST-ing in the cam for the last 8 years. These positions have usually been local but I have been on allot of smaller panels and even an aamst for a while in YoF. I have a strong network in the cam; and a working relation ship with the local and regional staff. You who are voting have all known my work first hand and I will let it speak for itself. Thank you, James A Ruggiero US2002023492 AND To all it may concern, Previous Positions : ADST 2004 AVST Mage 2004 Vision Statement : I believe that in order to survive as a domain we need to mix in new blood with our current players. I think that we need to get a new fresh look at storylines in our venues. In order to do this I would like to work with our DC and possibly branch out into conventions or get our website's forums back in order and more active. I would also like to make sure all of the newest rules put out are understood and implemented. A lot of people have wanted Cross-venue events to happen so I will try to talk to each VST and see how we can make this a possibility in the near future. Herbie brings up some excellent points in his vision statement: 1. I see you want to bring new blood into our game and you mentioned branching out into conventions, do you have any in mind? RI is notoriously convention dry or at least I have not seen any. 2. You mention you want the forums more active, is this something ICly or OCly? Any plans to encourage it's use? 3. Cross Venue, on what scale are we looking at? We have been trending slowly towards more cross venue events and they have been positive so far. If you were to rate how much CV from 1-10 with 10 being the most and 3 being what we currently have, what would you rate it at? On a different note, while I am interested in the position, I am endorsing Herbie Hicks for the position. Herbie has been with the Camarilla I believe as long as I have. His characters have been out there and his plots have been... extreme. I've enjoyed both and have heard good stuff about his table top games. I would be happy to continue as a venue story teller under Mr. Hicks. James A Ruggiero US2002023492 -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... While RI is convention dry except for TempleCon. I've been to conventions all over the place, and I see people from RI everywhere. So I know that the people are here. There are smaller less advertised conventions around RI so I would look at trying to get in on those as well. > 2. You mention you want the forums more active, is this something ICly > or OCly? Any plans to encourage it's use? ICly, in other games I've seen and been a part of we've had forums set up generally for character interactions and the system for encouragement there was the fact hat you could get plot cookies from forum interactions easier then you could get them in game with a small number of ST staff. Also this way there is no huge disadvantage to not being an active board member. If people want the help then they'll take it. > 3. Cross Venue, on what scale are we looking at? We have been trending > slowly towards more cross venue events and they have been positive so > far. If you were to rate how much CV from 1-10 with 10 being the most > and 3 being what we currently have, what would you rate it at? I'd say I would start off at a 6 and if it went smoothly and the players wanted more we could up it from there. What are your takes on these questions? As to #1, I am stumped. Maybe I am a little burnt out... or the other word is old, but I am just bone dry for ideas to get new people. I mean in the old days I would just grab people on campus throw them over the shoulder and make'm play. I am pretty sure that's how Krispy joined the cam. Alas if I did that today either the back would give out or the cops would arrest me. #2 I would love to have active forums. I can get these back up, but they are quite a bit of effort. Last time we got nailed by hackers so I am a bit leery about them. If we have definite motivation to get them back up I will make the effort. Personally, I would love a World of Darkness. This is year 4, we know what venues are out there and despite power differences the maturity of local play says we should be able to go right to 10. Reality is the cam frowns on CV despite the source materials counter. The big argument that they don't want a superfriends of supernaturals just doesn't float with me anymore. As it is people form coteries and cabals for that very reason. Hey we really need a Prime Master who can focus on that? Oh man we have no Mekhet how are we getting Auspex? I don't see more consistant interaction being any different. But we do need to jive with the bigger game and though I want to see more I can't responsibly condone much more than double the frequency, even though it would allow our local VSTs to have a local venue to play in /cough /cough. Back to the forums; I like the plot cookie idea, but how is this different from down time reports? I mean I can barely remember the last one I've seen. A Forum is a bit different then downtime reports since on a forum people can get group efforts done and hopefully response time can be good from the ST staff (I know we can do it). Also, some players get more brave with their characters when they are behind a computer screen since they can't see the ST's "are you sure you want to do that face". As for CV I think we can really make it work we just need to build it up to get the CV interactions smoother. You know, start with characters who would deal well with each other bumping into one another (hopefully) and getting the trust levels up. Any other questions from the domain? I deem our best games have been those that people talk about afterward. These are sometimes credited to ST, sometimes to the Players, sometimes to both, and sometimes the unknown. Beyond that, there is the STs ideal cam game. This is where I have delivered enough consensual plot to keep folks entertained and enticed to follow it. "Breaking" a character in the sense I have shattered their every perceptions in that they will look at their character concept critically. The key factor is engaging the player and the player engaging the ST. I enjoy STing most when I am exhauster because everyone is constantly pulling me away to take care of this or that game changing event. -Jim US2002023492 On Thu, Feb 5, 2009 at 2:35 AM, <8ernallysecure at gmail.com> wrote: > To both: > > Describe with as much detail as you can, what your ideal vision of our Cam > game is locally and beyond. > > Thank you. > Jon > Have A Great Day, > > Jonathan McDowell, Sr. > US2002045163 > > _______________________________________________ > CamRI mailing list > CamRI at camarillaprovidence.org > > http://camarillaprovidence.org/mailman/listinfo/camri_camarillaprovidence.org > -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Where: 24 Anthony Drive Cumberland, RI 02864 REQUIEM TEASER In Arturian legends the lands lives and sickens with its king. Providence as of late seems to have one hell of a cold. More than a cold, the pretty lady is down with a full blown flu. The mundanes, those people unaware of the darkness around them, go about their day feeling the pressures of economic and social failings. Budget cuts and unemployment bring this lemmings into a stressful fervor that they don't even notice filth and decay at their feet. What was once expected to be immaculate streets now as the snow melts reveals nothing but inner city trash. Well at least the homeless, those dregs of society, have moved out of the inner city proper. Who cares if they have taken hold up under the bridges, at least they aren't pandering around the shopping malls and places of business. But we know better; we who look with our eyes in shadow. We can see the creatures that slither in the corner of sight. Those events that slide their way around conscious thought. An insidious infection has taken root, sapping the spirit of its citizens, making the prey lethargic and unappealing. Man long ago went against the natural way and hunted the strongest rather than the stragglers from the herd.... should we be so different? Let us look back but a month, a mighty king of the night clubs, taken low by little more than vermin. Even now the rulers of night dare to go down, down, down. Down into goblin town... as the old saying goes.
