As far as Mage goes, I can host it on any Sunday that we wanted to do it.  So if people want to stick with the 3rd Sunday that's fine with me (though my birthday is two days later, so gifts may be required <grin>).
 
The 1st, 2nd and 4th Sundays are also fine.

Because of the holidays and all Boston moved their Forsaken game to the 3rd Sunday.  It's a game I really like to play in (second fave after Mage) but if it comes to a conflict, I'll choose local Mage.  BTW how was it in Boston for those who did go?

This is the holiday season, and also the weekend before my final exams.  

I can't take the whole weekend off from work in retail this close to Christmas, and then go to games the entire time without studying.

Having two Requiem games in the same weekend means I will only be able to go to one of them, and work will only let me take one day off anyway.

I'm not sure if anyone else working retail is in the same boat, but I thought I would speak up.

I would absolutely prefer the 14th, it looks like I'll miss Requiem, I don't wanna lose Awakening too! Even if they're on diff weekends, I like 14th Awakening.

-	US National Charity Drive for the Month of December will be First Book -
Literacy drive

 For the month of December 2008 First Book will match every monetary
donation, book-for-book, up to a million books.
 Prestige will be awarded in the category of Community Service for the
month of December 2008 by the following guidelines
    1 point of national for every 3$ donated - verified by e-receipt
    1 point of national for every 2 books donated to local literacy
programs (Libraries, bookmobiles, community programs, etc)
Up to the max of 30N for the month.

-	Work on Prestige audit and record system.  I have spent a considerable
amount of time reading old reports and updating member?s prestige logs. 
Members will receive a copy of their prestige log that has been updated. 
Please review and submit back to me any corrections or items that are not
present.

-	Recruitment- This is still an ongoing issue so if anyone has any
suggestions, please let me know.

-	Box Top for Education ? Members who collect these and get them to me
will be awarded 1 general prestige for each one with a maximum of 70.  Box
tops are the cutout item on top of certain food products; they are a dark
pink with a pencil on it.  Usually cereals, Campbell?s soup, Ziploc bags,
etc. have the icon on it.  Many schools collect these and are receive
money and products for collecting so many of them.

-	Collecting soda cans and bottles for prestige.  Please do not crush them
it makes the machine have a hard time reading the label.  Currently we are
able to turn in Coke and Pepsi products, as well as Beer.  Please no
lemonade, iced tea, Red Bull or any energy drinks.  If it has a MA
redemption, then we can take it.

-	There was also conversation about possibly moving our game to the first
Saturday of the month.

-   Staff needs to take appropriate ordeals.

-   How would the membership feel about changing our game from the 3rd
Saturday to the 1st Saturday of the month?

-   I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that made both
food and monetary donations, because of your generosity our domain was
able to donate the following items to the Rhode Island Community Food
Bank; 4 cans corn, 2 cans clam sauce, 1 can kidney beans, 1 box pancake
mix, 12 packs of Ramen, 1 box instant oatmeal, 2 cans of cranberry sauce,
2 boxes of stovetop stuffing, 3 boxes corn mix, 1 can pumpkin, 2 large
cans of peaches, 1 large can of yams, 2 cans green beans, 2 cans of turkey
gravy, 2 boxes of pumpkin bread mix, 1 box of rice, 3 boxes of instant
potatoes, 6 boxes of macaroni and cheese, and 6 juice boxes.

-  I have appointed John Tyler as my reports proofreader after bringing
quite a few errors, one of which was significant, in last month?s report
to my attention.  Thanks for your help.

A new addendum just came out; it mostly just approves more books for play.
For all the combat happy toons check out these low approval merits available
for every venue:
F.      Fighting Style Merits

1.       *Unarmed Fighting Styles*

a.       Boxing, Kung-Fu and Two-Weapon Fighting may not be used with any
form of shapeshifting power. This includes natural claws and teeth, Feeding
the Crone, supernatural claws or any effects that transform the user into
inhuman shapes.

i.         The Werewolf Dalu form is an exception to this.

2.       *Archery* [Armory]

a.       This Merit can be used only with bows (not crossbows).

3.       *Chain Weapons* [Armory]:  The system for this Merit is replaced
with the following.

a.       ?:  Functions per the description in *Armory* (WW55102).

b.       ?? to ????:  Each dot allows the character to negate one point of
penalty for a targeted attack with a chain.

4.       *Combat Marksmanship* [Armory]:  The system for this Merit is
replaced with the following.

a.       Each dot grants a +1 bonus to Initiative with a firearm (to a
maximum of the character's dots in the Firearms Skill).

b.       This Merit can be used only with firearms (not bows or crossbows).

5.       *Fencing* [Armory]:  The system for this Merit is replaced with the
following.

a.       The character may sacrifice a number of points of Defense up to the
number of dots in this Merit.  Each point sacrificed may be used to add one
to the attack pool that turn.  If the character does not have defense to
sacrifice, they may not add to their attack.  This benefit does not count as
part of the 'base pool' but is a beneficial modifier.

b.       This Merit is intended to be used only with specific swords:
curved sword, fencing sword, rapier, sword cane, katana or wakizashi.  Using
any other sword incurs a -1 penalty on the bonus that may be applied.

6.       *Filipino Martial Arts* [Armory]:  The system for this Merit is
replaced with the following.

a.       Each dot grants a +1 bonus to the character's Defense when fighting
an unarmed opponent, when using the appropriate weapons.

7.       *Improvised Weapon* [Midnight Roads]:

a.       The first two dots of this Merit are sanctioned at Low Approval.
The third dot is not in play.

8.       *Sniping* [Armory]:  The system for this Merit is replaced with the
following.

a.       The character may sacrifice all Defense for the turn.  In return,
penalties to hit a target via a Firearms attack are reduced by a number of
points up to the number of dots in this Merit.

b.       This Merit can be used only with rifles (not bows, crossbows or
other firearms).

9.       *Spetzatz Knife Fighting* [Armory]:  The system for this Merit is
replaced with the following.

a.       The character may make an attack which penalizes the victim's
defense up to the number of dots in this Merit. This attack must follow
another knife attack on the same target from the character which did not use
this bonus. (E.g.:  The character attacks without penalizing the victim's
defense in the first turn. Then the character may penalize the victim's
defense in the following turn.  The character would then have to attack
without imposing a penalty on the victim's defense again before it could
claim the bonus again.)

10.   *Staff Fighting* [Armory]:  The system for this Merit is replaced with
the following.

a.       The character may add a dot to its Defense for every dot in this
Merit, in addition to the +1 bonus to Defense for using a pole-arm.

Oh, I like the new document. For those who have not seen it:

This allows us to do simple things like say make a phone call to someone you
might suspect is something and you want to say pass on some information
without a crazy approval number.

Scratch that CV idea... though being able to play a werewolf in mage would

Good Evening,

    I'll apologize in advance for the rant that follows, not because I'm 
ranting, but because I know how much my friends hate reading long 
emails. Multiple people have reacted to my comments about cross-venue, 
so I'm going to mass post and get a big chunk of my thoughts out there. 
These are my opinions. They inform and direct the current play of our 
venue because I'm the DST, but that doesn't make them law. We run this 
club together by the guidelines set forth by the Camarilla. So please 
don't react like I'm a grand despot, I'm just stating my POV.

Statement: We want C/V!
Answer: So do I. It's already happened. A LOT. Werewolves in Awakening. 
Werewolves in Requiem. Awakened in Requiem. Vampires in Awakening.

S: Well, fine, but that's just NPCs. We want PCs together.
A: So do I and I've tried. However, I feel like people think the 
Consilium should just pop by the next Elysium and go fix the ley lines 
together or stomp the evil spirits or kill splorches or, whatever. But 
that's not the game we're playing.  If you have any doubts on this, 
please reread the C/V guide. This isn't a game where werewolves and 
mages and vampires all hang out with some lovely English librarian and 
maybe a demon and Spider-Man and Firestar and Apache Chief. And then 
they gather regularly to go beat something up with their awesomeness. 
That's a fine premise, but it's not the Cam game.
   
S: But it would be great!
A: No, really, it wouldn't. One time, maybe an annual thing, sure. Which 
is why the latest addendum allows for it. But there's a reason that the 
Cam has no super-group documentation. It goes like this:
    Mages meet Vampires. Vampires eat people. Mages realize, hey there 
is NO good reason to allow these bastards to exist. We just don't 
f**king need them at all. Hey, vampires, look! Sunlight! Control over 
Death! Super-Strength! Mind-wipe!
    Read the core books. Vampires don't interact with the world, they 
manipulate and withdraw from it unless they are actively sucking it dry. 
Mages protect the world, or control it, by dealing with ghosts, spirits, 
fire, demons, etc. Anyone see a teensy difference in perspective here?

S: You're wrong, that's not how the books are written.
A: Ok. fine, I'll skip the books and talk about our local game in clear 
and specific terms. Our vampires don't chase plot. Our mages don't chase 
plot. If you have any doubts about this, email me off-list and I'll send 
you references. The only time we PCs do anything is when the ST, 
literally, puts plot right in our laps, and even then there's no 
guarantee (references also available upon request). And that's fine if 
that's how people have fun. We're here to have fun! But if the vampires 
are cloistered in their secret lair and the mages are cloistered in 
their secret lair and the bad guys have to dump all their efforts into 
cracking a 5-5-5 haven/sanctum just to get noticed, what evil in the 
universe would bother trying to attack them both at once?

S: Ok, so not a bad guy, what about the recent problems with the ley 
lines? The Ordo should want to fix that and the mages too.
A: 1. The Ordo will study it and make lots of preparations for the sh*t 
storm brought on by screwy ley lines, but they are very limited in what 
they can do to actually fix those lines. 2. The mages don't need the 
vamps for help. Worst case, the vampires actually make things worse.
    But let's say it's true; what does that give us? A C/V game where we 
walk around checking on ley lines and fixing them like some supernatural 
urban infrastructure team.

S: You're just jaded.
A: Yes, I am. Because C/V has been abused and run badly across our club 
and I do not want superfriends in the game I play. When I want 
superfriends, I go play a different game.

S: Only NPCs or ST PCs are involved in C/V.
A: Incorrect, but I understand why the perception exists. As mentioned 
above, people don't chase down evil things. This means that in order to 
ensure the the story behind the C/V is something interesting, STs  must 
be the major stake holders. Moreover,. we've never done C/V in NWoD; we 
have no idea how it will turn out. We aren't ready to just fling wide 
the doors and hope it all works out. We might get lucky, but there's too 
many really good IC and OC reasons not to do that.
    Chief among these good reasons is survivability. There are no mages 
in our venue that have anything to fear from any PC vampire except 
Elauwit. None. I believe every one of us is a Master of at least one 
Arcanum. The only Arcanum that a vampire has a chance against at that 
level are Time and Prime. Anything else kicks the vampire's butt. So who 
wants to volunteer their vampire PC to be the first to interact with 
mages and possibly get wiped out after years of play? How about STs, who 
have the characters with the best chance of survival and who OCly are 
willing to take the risk to give the players a taste of what they want?
    And before anyone starts suggesting that the mages would play nice, 
that's not how we roll. Let's not forget that there have been two 
instances of mages turning on each other in our game since August. I 
would not trust any non-ST character not to drop a vamp first chance 
they got. And you know what? That's GOOD because that's how it should be 
and it's who we are and I'm not going to suddenly quash that just so 
Julius can put moves on Rowan before Deacon accidentally invokes Paradox 
in another room and the big demon eats everyone's favorite Carthian.

_My last argument_
    I want C/V so badly that I have been working for it for two solid 
years. Cross Venue is hard to do properly. If people are role-playing 
their characters as they have been and should be, then C/V just doesn't 
make sense. There's no good reason for it, especially not between 
Kindred and Awakened. The power levels ICly and OCly are too far off. If 
it is going to work, STs have to plan long and hard and keep a lot of 
balls in the air and even then, it may not work because in the end, it's 
the players that run the game, not the STs. How do I know?
    Sunday's game, 12/14, was a TRIPLE C/V. Three venues with PLANNED 
COMBAT. The enemy showed up in the Consilium, laid huge smack down, even 
tagged a major PC. The PCs followed and got explicit directions on where 
to go to find the bad guy. They had motive, they had opportunity, they 
had numbers, they had power. But then the mages did what they do: some 
information got shared, some didn't. They took a step back and assessed 
the threat instead of going off half-cocked. I can't blame them. If a 
worm could get inside Dusk, it could get inside anyone. Definitely not 
something to going rushing into. So the warriors planned defense and the 
researchers got to work figuring out what they were up against. And a 
year and a half of plot and OC maneuvering was put on hold again because 
that's what was good and right for the games.

    Let's not force something that's not natural. Let's play and keep on 
as we have been and not put so much stock in cross-venue until we get 
two games that actually make sense together.
    Forsaken, anyone?

We will be hosting Changeling and Requiem on Saturday and Forsaken on
Sunday. There will be teasers as the dates get closer.

I plan on playing Requiem.

I have to say that I feel at a loss about how to follow elements presented as plot.  There are times I am even told later on that some event or other was part of a plot and I had no idea.

I do not like all plots to be something attacking us, but I also have trouble figuring out what is "plot" and what is not, and also have little to no idea what to do about things which disappear too quickly for us to even do a pull.

Wow! Congratulations to both, Jon and John! I cringe in terror at being
so close to the heart of the regional officers.

 

Actually I just looked through and the new staff looks. well regional. I
see, RI, MA, CT, and Alb NY represented. Where are Steve and John C out
of?
