Assembled,

My apologies. As it turns out, there are actually two applicants for the
role of DST. The latter was sent correctly but my email appears to have
rejected it. In any case, the two applicants are Diana Perry, and Jonathan
McDowell. To help move things along, I am going to condense the Q&A phase,
and the voting phase, into a single week. If you like, please feel free to
ask Diana or Jon any questions over this forum. In the meantime, please
send your votes to myself (shadowside21 at hotmail dot com), and to my Chief
of Staff (metaphysick at yahoo dot com). The deadline for this will be
Friday, Feb 9th, 11:00 PM. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate
to ask.

Your choices are:
1) Diana Perry
2) Jonathan McDowell
3) None of the above.

Sincerely,
Dain Geist

DIANA PERRY:

DST Vision Statement:

I plan on having monthly ST meetings with the existing VST staff. I would
want to be active in recruitment and in building interest in the unplayed
genres (namely Mortals and Forsaken) by alternating events either live or
online for the Domain in those Genres. I plan to visit other Domain's
events and encourage them to visit us, especially for the un- and
underplayed genre games.

I plan to be mainly administrative, passing information up and down the
chain as appropriate for approvals and plots. I would want to have an ADST
Special Plots, with whom I would brainstorm plot ideas to benefit all genres
running in the Domain. These plots would be passed on to the VSTs to run as
they see fit, though I would assist as needed at the discretion of the VST.
I would file timely reports and support the VST staff in filing theirs.

For the unplayed genres, I plan on having a few months of networking and
planning events, where interested players could work on creating ties and
building characters. After that point, I would alternate months for events
(for example, running Mortals in June and Forsaken in July). If interest
increases in either or both genre, I would look for regular VSTs for these
genres and encourage a new VSS. My focus would be on maintaining the great
local VSSs we have now and building on that through recruitment.

With Templecon only a few weeks away, I feel it is important to put emphasis
on recruitment and welcoming newly interested players to our local games in
the future. Our VSTs have excellent plot ideas which I believe will
generate interest, and I would like to reinforce that by helping individuals
new to the Camarilla feel less intimidated by the idea of an ST chain.

JONATHAN MCDOWELL:

1. Jonathan McDowell; US2002045163; 8ernallysecure at gmail.com
2. Brief Vision Statement
My intention is to apply some aspects of realism and consequence to the
World of Darkness our characters live in, to make it not just two venues
having games, but an entire environment you can indulge in as heavily or as
lightly as you want until this becomes as immersive as any WoW or tabletop
session could hope to be. It’s an ambitious goal, certainly, but I think
it’s worth trying. I look forward to your response.

3. Camarilla experience:
I will beg indulgence on the dates below, they are approximations. Thank
you.
ADC Education: 2001 (roughly 6 mos.)
CST Vampire: 2002
NWOD Ordeal Development Team Member: 2004-2005
DC RI-002: 01/2005 – 11/2006

Relevant Non-Camarilla experience-:
- Sr. IT Support Analyst; Commended for leadership, public speaking,
creative thinking,
and teamwork
- Volunteer for my parish as lector and celebratory assistant; noted for
varied service, commitment, and public speaking

4. Any disciplinary action or related Storyteller/Coordinator actions taken
against you in the Camarilla, with details of nature and extent:
Nothing to report.

Questions which no one has asked & Their answers
Why should I continue in the Cam? There’s nothing here I can’t get in
tabletop.
The Cam cannot and should not compete with tabletop. In the Cam, we aren't
called to create uber-characters with ease and there are rules that seem to
tie our hands when we try to do so. We sometimes find it frustrating that we
can’t have huge battles with iconic legends like our favorite movies. Then
again, nothing beats the rush of silencing a room with just the right look.
Few tabletop games can be enjoyed while sitting silent in a corner. And I
know of very few tabletop games with thousands of members who meet daily
around the world to play. They are two separate animals and comparisons are
folly. I fear too many people focus on the game aspect and miss the live,
action, and role-playing aspects. There is no game I know where you can get
such a return on your investment of time and effort.

Why do you want to be DST?
DST offers a myriad of roles I’d savor but what I really love
about DST is the support work. I look forward to developing a city which
lives and reacts like a city would. STs don’t necessarily have time to track
how their plot will impact another venue, that’s not even their job. A good
play has key elements: actor, story, and scene. The players are the actors,
the STs provide the plot, and as DST I could provide the third variable in
the form of a city that acts and reacts like a city should. Our games don’t
exist in bubbles, they’re two different species, sure, but they live in the
same pond; I relish the idea of being that pond.

What can we expect with storylines that you develop?
II have started on many ideas for cross-venue background plots.
Rhode Island has as rich history in the supernatural; we have a long list of
suspected witches and mysterious folks who guided the city’s development and
RI boasts one of the highest numbers of vampire sightings in the world. My
plots focus on developing the ghost stories which are part of our local
history. My goal as a DST would be to provide plots which can involve a few
players and run either solely in DT or can be brought into play at a session
for those players not involved in the VSTs major plots.

What can we expect with regard to Approvals?
I will continue the long-held practice of scrutinizing all apps
and challenging players to really understand what they seek and how it will
impact them. As frustrating as Forrest was with my own apps, he really
helped me develop my character and become them more fully.
I will uphold the Cam standard of two week turn around time on
approval responses and will consistently strive to meet a two-day or less
response time.
You have ambitious goals; will you be enlisting any aid?
I fully intend to make positions available which will help
myself and the VSTs handle the minutiae of running a game world.

Any other goals?
I would love to see more venues in play, or at least characters
for such venues attached to our domain as the basis for future games. There
is no restriction on characters being created in a domain for venues which
are not in play, quite the contrary. I look forward to giving Werewolves,
Mortals, and all others who wish to be a part of Providence’s living
cityscape a role playing base to attract attention to their venue and spread
news of Rhode Island’s events to other domains.
I wouldn’t mind hosting more online gatherings or sessions
beyond the usual monthly meeting. It can be difficult to meet in person each
month, but social gatherings such as parties and order/covenant meetings,
group DT scenes, major venue-neutral events, etc. can be easily hosted
online or in small gatherings. Such events would focus on easy fun and more
time IC for those who want it, not exp-hoarding.
My biggest goal is to see one month where the STs don’t have to
run plot because the PCs have taken such an active role in developing their
own.

CONCLUSION
It is my belief that a complete world will make our game different than any
other. It won’t be just us gathering monthly to follow plot, it will be a
constant hobby that continually changes as a result of direct and indirect
player actions, plot, and pure chance. In this way it becomes a world. It
takes a bit more work from everyone, but the work becomes more fulfilling as
you see the world change and grow around you.

Have A Great Day,

Jonathan McDowell
